Most common reasons electrical inspections fail
Use this quick pre-final checklist before you call inspection. It covers the misses that cause most red tags: labeling, grounding/bonding, working clearance, GFCI/AFCI mismatches, and box/conductor errors.
Always verify against local amendments + active code cycle.
1) Panel labeling / directory issues
- Missing or vague circuit descriptions
- Directory not updated after changes
- Wrong breaker-to-load mapping
2) Grounding + bonding misses
- Bonding jumper errors at service/disconnect
- EGC path not continuous
- Intersystem bonding termination missing
3) Protection mismatches
- Required GFCI/AFCI not applied
- Wrong breaker type or rating
- Protection location not compliant
4) Clearances + box fill
- Panel working space blocked
- Box fill over limit
- Conductor terminations too crowded
