Most common reasons electrical inspections fail

Use this quick pre-final checklist before you call inspection. It covers the misses that cause most red tags: labeling, grounding/bonding, working clearance, GFCI/AFCI mismatches, and box/conductor errors.

Always verify against local amendments + active code cycle.

1) Panel labeling / directory issues

  • Missing or vague circuit descriptions
  • Directory not updated after changes
  • Wrong breaker-to-load mapping

2) Grounding + bonding misses

  • Bonding jumper errors at service/disconnect
  • EGC path not continuous
  • Intersystem bonding termination missing

3) Protection mismatches

  • Required GFCI/AFCI not applied
  • Wrong breaker type or rating
  • Protection location not compliant

4) Clearances + box fill

  • Panel working space blocked
  • Box fill over limit
  • Conductor terminations too crowded
